We are pleased to announce the publication of "Clothes to Live In: Martin Margiela".
I have been photographing my Martin Margiela clothes, which I have cherished for many years, one piece at a time for the past two years, with the desire to create a record of them. As I compile that time into a book, I have decided to put a portion of the collection up for auction.
This book will be available for pre-sale at the auction preview venue on September 18, 2026.
Some of the clothes featured in the book can also be seen in person at the venue.

Having revisited each item through the process of creating this book and documented it, I have now decided to entrust a portion of it to the next person.
A preview will be held at SAI inside MIYASHITA PARK from September 18th to 25th. The auction will take place on September 26th.

INTRODUCTION
NEW AUCTION will be holding "Maison Martin Margiela, 1989–2009: The Private Archive Collection" on September 26, 2026.
This auction will feature over 300 works from a private collection meticulously built by a single collector over approximately 20 years.
This collection is a precious archive that allows us to trace the diverse history of creation produced during the time when Martin Margiela led the Maison. Each garment and object contained within it reflects the collector's sincere efforts over many years of collecting, as well as a deep respect and empathy for Martin Margiela's creativity and philosophy.
Martin Margiela left a unique mark on the history of modern fashion by bringing a fresh perspective to established values. Throughout his 20 years leading Maison Martin Margiela, he questioned conventional notions of luxury, authorship, and beauty, and re-examined the very meaning of clothing.
Rather than simply following trends, they continuously questioned the very nature of fashion, elevating clothing into conceptual objects and transforming fashion into a medium for cultural dialogue.
Martin Margiela's creations continue to captivate many people, not only for their sculptural originality, but also because they profoundly changed our very perceptions of clothing, craftsmanship, memory, and identity.
The collection features iconic series from the Maison, including Artisanal, Replica, and the Doll (Barbie) Series, as well as numerous essential pieces that underpinned each collection. The inclusion of not only these iconic items but also the surrounding garments allows for a more comprehensive understanding of the evolving philosophy and design trends that Margiela has consistently pursued.
We are deeply honored to be able to present this precious collection to all those who have been captivated by the creations of Martin Margiela. We hope that this auction will provide an opportunity to acquire pieces that symbolize the history of Maison Martin Margiela, and to gain insight into the thoughts and philosophy embodied in Martin Margiela's creations.
COLLECTOR'S MESSAGE
I am deeply grateful for this opportunity to showcase my collection in NEW AUCTION.
From the 1990s to the early 2000s, I collected Martin Margiela clothing piece by piece, both domestically and internationally. Rather than pursuing trends or rarity, I was drawn to his philosophy and aesthetic sense, and this is a one-owner collection of clothes that I have continued to choose as garments that will accompany me throughout my life.
Having reached a milestone with the creation of this book, I have decided to put a portion of it up for auction. For me, clothes are not just something to wear. I believe they are documents that convey the value of design, the spirit of the times, and the philosophy behind craftsmanship, and they are also a part of the culture that should be preserved for the future.
The next owner might be someone who actually wears these clothes. Or they might be someone who carefully preserves them for research or as reference material. I believe either way, it will be a wonderful future for these garments.
I sincerely hope that this collection, which has spanned 30 years, will be cherished and passed down in its new locations, and that it will continue to help carry on Martin Margiela's designs and philosophy into the future.
